McCORMACK GOES ELECTRIC (AGAIN)

FEB 24, 2010:Much to the chagrin (nay, outrage) of the folk world Barry has turned (once more) to worshipping the Gods of rock'n'roll. He's currently holed up in Stephen Shannon's studio in the inner suburbs of Dublin recording an album of recession ballads and divorce ditties.

Musicians featured include Joss Moorkens from The Dudley Corporation on drums, Stephen Shannon on bass, John 'Bon' Hegarty on keyboards; and long-time collaborators Shane 'Mad Dog' McGrath on axe hero duties and Gary Fitzpatrick on accordion and bawdyhouse backing vocals. Vent your ire at this travesty on Barry's MySpace and Facebook pages.

Release date: pending positive outcome of scratch card addiction.

If your curiosity is getting the better of you, you can listen to one of the tracks in progress, “Hard is the Road” by clicking on this yoke here.   Crank it up to 11.

BARRY JOINS HANDSOME FAMILY FOR APRIL CHICAGO DATES

Barry will join The Handsome Family for two dates at Schuba's in Chicago, on the 18th and 19th of April.

So far, these are Barry's only scheduled appearances in the US for 2009.

Also on the bill is Marissa Nadler.

Tickets are available directly from Schuba's.

WHELANS, MARCH 28

Ocean-dreaming stevedores, starry-eyed binmen, and unjustly oppressed bicyclists everywhere can rejoice as Barry once again takes the stage upstairs at Whelans on Saturday, March 28, for another evening of doom and cheer.

Show kicks off at 8 p.m. and the cover is a recession (or can we call it a depression now?) friendly 10 euro.

Special guests Pacifix will bravely cross the midlands to regale you with all the latest news from Cashel.

Colm McCarthy made some limited edition silkscreen posters for the show, which can be seen at Whelans and various choice establishments around Dublin. You're welcome, nay encouraged, to steal them any time after 8 p.m. on March 28th.

"NIGHT VISITING" NOW AVAILABLE

Barry's new album, "Night Visiting" is now available on Hag's Head Records.

"f***ing brilliant...it's a testament to McCormack's literary songwriting that his work stands up to intense scrutiny"
Slate magazine ****

"McCormack takes his listener into dark, surreal and often downright funny territory...this is Patrick McCabe put to music. And just as in McCabe's novels the macabre and the hilarious often sit side by side."
Irish Independent ****

"If you like dark ruminations and tales that come from a trady tradition quite at odds with fifteen years of the Celtic Tiger you'll love Barry McCormack"
Hot Press *****

"Doom-laden but blackly comical...such is McCormack's eye for folk and trad detail that one expects Captain Farrell to come galloping in all his pomp across the Cork and Kerry mountains...Ronnie Drew will rest easier with talent like this around."
RTE Guide ***
